What to eat in winter at your local Orange County farm market

Eat fresh! Catering fresh with fresh local ingredients.

Some local farmers market in Orange County can be a bit scarce in the winter time. But one would be amazed by the quality of the winter harvest of some locals farms serving the Huntington Beach Farmers Market on Tuesday nights (off of Main Street & PCH)!

Here are some creative ideas for eating local and fresh in winter time in So Cal.

FRESH GRILL VEGGIES RECIPE

With this abundance of roots vegetables, artichokes, kale and a variety of lettuces, it's the perfect time to get back to healthy! I like to use mini sweet peppers, asparagus, sweet onions, mini eggplants and/or large portobello mushroom

So clean & dust off your outdoor grill and start grilling. Here are some of my tips for your grill veggie platter:

  • Cut your veggies in big wedges otherwise they will slip between the grill. And you do want a bit of crunch left.

  • Don't forgot big think slices of fresh onions.

  • In a large pan, add olive oil and fresh garlic, salt, pepper, along with a pinch of Herbs De Provence and marinated for up to 1 hour

  • Heat up your grill in advance to med high.

  • Cook your veggies until tender (do not overcook)

  • Cool off on a platter and drizzle with a bit of pure olive oil, balsamic vinegar and fresh basil chiffonnade.

You can also use your grilled vegetables for:

  • Vegetarian Sandwichs

  • Toss in pastas

  • Make a healthy omelette

  • Add to your Poke bowl or rice bowl
